Lower Dolpo Trek which is also written as Lower Dolpa trek is the wonderful journey to the remote far western Nepal. Dolpo region gained its popularity after the release of Eric Valli directed and Oscar nominated movie- Caravan. Torquoise blue Phoksundo Lake is the jewel of Lower Dolpo. In fact, Phoksundo is the deepest Himalayan Lake. We will follow the ancient trail that has been in use since centuries before for the salt trade in between people from Dolpo and the neighboring Tibetans.
Located in the rainbow shadow of Dhaulagiri Mountain, trekking in Lower Dolpo is possible even in rainy season. Lower Dolpo falls under restricted area trekking and thus you need a special trekking permit for visiting Dolpo region. Having been opened to outside world only since 1990, culture in Lower Dolpo has remained unchanged since ages. Shey- Phoksundo National Park is rich in alpine vegetation and wildlife.  
Visit Dolpo to witness the still existing nomadic life, the ancient Bon Po religion which has been in existence even before Buddhism was conceived, and the moonscape that is unlike any other Nepali terrain.

The trail continues through Tarakot, Laini, Do Tarap and Ringmo to Phoksundo Lake while return trail continues through Shyanta back to Jhupal.

Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu (1300m)
After you disembark from the plane, you will have to go through custom formalities. Later, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to hotel for your luxurious stay. You will get briefing from your tour leader. Enjoy the welcome dinner.  

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek preparation
After breakfast, guide will take you for wonderful Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour during which you will visit UNESCO sites like Pashupatinath, Swayambhu, Bouddhanath and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Kathmandu is the wonderful city where culture is embedded in the daily life of people. Pashupatinath is one of the holiest Hindu temple in the world. Swayambhunath is the oldest Buddhist stupa and Bouddhanath is the largest stupa. Bouddhanath is located in ancient trade route between Nepal and Tibet. We will also acquire trekking permit.

Day 03: Flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj
It takes 90minutes of flight to reach Nepalgunj from Kathmandu. The flight will be scenic with plenty of opportunities to have close-up look at snowcapped mountains. Nepalgunj is an economic hub that is located near to Nepal- India border. We will visit the bazaar area in the evening and stay overnight in a hotel in Nepalgunj. 

Day 04: Nepalgunj to Jhupal Flight (2320m), Trek to Dunai (2850m)
We will wake up early in the morning to catch flight from Nepalgunj to Juphal. 45 minutes of pleasant flight will take us to Juphal. We can get close views of Annapurna Mountain and Dhaulagiri Mountain during the flight. We will assemble our crew and begin our trek to Dunai which is a Sherpa village located at 2140m altitude. We will stay overnight at Dunai which is the district headquarters.

Day 05: Dunai to Tarakot (2543m)
Leaving Dunai, we will follow the trail along southern edge of river and walk uphill through gorges and dispersed settlements to arrive at the town of Tarakot which was used as fort during ancient war. Tarakot is a scenic town located to the south of Bheri River.

Day 06: Tarakot to Laini (3160m)
We will continue to pursue the trail along Tarap Chu River. At one point, we need to cross the river over a bridge. We can get view of spectacular Sandul Gompa which is located to the east of Tarakot by the confluence of Barbung River and Tarap Chu River. We will move further through the descending trail to Laini.

Day 07: Laini to Nawarpani (3545m)
From Laini, the trail continues uphill through the gorge. We need to follow uphill tapered path for an hour before lowering down to Chyugur River. This part of trek needs special attention as we need to identify our own way at several points. Stay overnight at Nawarpani.  

Day 08: Nawarpani to Do Tarap (4090m)
Walk uphill to Kamattarka which exists at the meeting point of Tarap Chu River and Lang River. After brief rest, continue walking through gorge and tree lines to enter inner Himalayan valley. Follow moderate trail for about 2and half hours to reach Do Tarap village that is fortified with stone wall. We can meet with people from Bon Po and Chaiba sects in this village.

Day 09: Do Tarap to Numa La Base Camp (4440m)
Move to the upper Tarap valley. Journey continues along Tarap Chu River that is lined with trees. The path is scenic and greener. It is relatively easier walk as the path stretches along plain land for most of the day. We will arrive at Tokyu village where we will visit monastery of Chiba sect. The trail escalates uphill for about two and half hours to reach Numa La pass.

Day 10: Climb Numa La (5190m), Trek to Pelung Tang (4465m)
This is a bit challenging day as we need to cross Numa La Pass (5190m). We will reach to the top of Numa La Pass in few hours and enjoy spectacular views of Dhaulagiri and other Tibetan mountains. Later, we will lower down to Pelung Tang for overnight stay.
 
Day 11: Cross Baga La (5070m), Trek to Dajok Tang (4080m)
Early in the morning, we will leave Pelung Tang and walk to the base of Baga La Pass. We will climb to the top of Baga La Pass (5070m). Although challenging, the top of Baga La offers charming views of Kanjirowa Mountain Range and valleys. Following the descending trail from Baga La for about three hours, we will reach Dajok Tang.

Day 12: Dajok Tang to Ringmo (3600m)
Leave Dajok Tang and walk through the pine forest to meadow. We can see Himalayan cattle like yak and sheep grazing peacefully in this area. The region is rich in herbs. The trail continues further to Ringmo where we will stay overnight.

Day 13: Explore Phoksundo Lake
This is a rest day. We will dedicate this time to visit Phoksundo Lake. This is a fresh water lake that is 5.15 m long and 800 m wide. It exists in Phoksundo National Park that is rich in Himalayan wildlife. We will visit ancient Bon Po Gompa at Ringmo and stay overnight.

Day 14: Phoksundo Lake to Shyanta (2520m)
Leave Phoksundo Lake and follow the descending trail to Chepka. The trail passes through rocks and boulders. The region is rich in rare minerals. We will traverse sporadic villages to reach Shyanta where we will stay overnight.

Day 15: Shyanta to Jhupal
The trail escalates uphill through the forested ridges to Sulighat. The route is scenic with views of several mountains and peaks in Nepal and Tibet. We will follow the descending trail from the ridge and arrive at Jhupal where we will stay overnight.

Day 16: Jhupal to Nepalgunj to Kathmandu Flight
We will take the returning flight from Jhupal to Nepalgunj and from there we will catch a connecting flight to Kathmandu on a same day. You will be transferred to hotel and you can enjoy farewell dinner in the evening.

Day 17: Departure
You will be dropped off at Tribhuvan International Airport approximately 3hours before your flight. Have a safe journey. We hope to see you soon
