Opened by Nepal Government in 2006, Upper Mustang Saribung Pass Trek is one of the best newly opened trekking routes in Nepal. The route for Upper Mustang trek is tricky and demands technical climbing skills. By participating in Upper Mustang via Saribung Pass trek, you will be exploring near Nepal- Tibet border where the trails are rugged passing through high cliffs and desolate lands in Damodar Mountain Region.
This is the perfect opportunity of witnessing the local culture, tradition and geographical diversities in desolate Nar Phu Valley and mystical Upper Mustang that rewards us with rare views of snow-clad peaks.  
Saribung Adventure organizes Upper Mustang with Saribung Pass Trek itinerary as 22-days package. The trek begins from Jomsom after taking Pokhara – Jomsom flight. Walk along scenic Kaligandaki Valley to Kagbeni which is the gateway to Upper Mustang region. Pass through big and small Mongolian villages to the fortified city of Lo Manthang. Visit Thugchen Gompa and Chyodi Gompa and reach Luri Cave Monastery which is the oldest cave monastery in Mustang region. Reach Saribung Pass via Namta Khola and enter Phu Region. The trek ends at Bulbule.
This is a challenging trek that demands basic mountaineering experience. March to November is the best season for Upper Mustang and Saribung Pass trek.

Day05: Chele to Gheling (3570m) 8hrs
Day06: Gheling to Tsarang (3560m) 7hrs

Day08: Lo-Manthang to Yara (3900m 6-7 hours)
Day09: Yara to Luri Cave Monastery (4005m) 4hrs
Day10: Luri Cave Monastery to Ghuma Thanti (4600m) 5-6hrs
Day11: Ghuma Thanti to Namta Khola (4890m) 7-8hrs

Day22: Departure.
Day01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1340m)
After you disembark from the plane, you will have to go through custom formalities. Later, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to hotel for your luxurious stay. You will get briefing from your tour leader. Enjoy the welcome dinner.  

Day02: Kathmandu to Pokhara by bus (900m) 6 hrs
Leave Kathmandu from Thankot checkpoint and follow Prithvi Highway for 5hrs to Pokhara. The journey will be scenic with views of Trishuli River, cable car, green hills and Marsyangdi River. Stay overnight in Pokhara. 

Day03: Pokhara to Jomsom (2720m) Flight, Trek to Kagbeni (2800m)
Take20 minutes of scenic flight from Pokhara to Jomsom which is the district headquarters of Mustang. Assemble th crew and begin your trek. You will be greeted with views of Nilgiri Mountain, Dhaulagiri Mountain, Tukuche peak and Dhampus peak. Kagbeni is the entry point for Upper Mustang. Stay overnight in a camp at Kagbeni.

Day04: Kagbeni to Chele (3100m) 6hrs
Move along the eastern edge of Kaligandaki River. Head north and follow the ascending trail to Tangbe Village. Walk through the narrow alleys amongst white washed houses and barley fields to Chhusang village. We can get view of Nilgiri peak throughout the way. Crossing the river, we will climb north and exit Kaligandaki valley. Climb to Chele for overnight stay.  

Day05: Chele to Gheling (3570m) 8hrs
Leave Chele and follow the ascending trail to small pass. We will move through less vegetation area where tree can be seen at sparse. Climb further through the pass for brief period before taking sharp descent to Samar village. Walk through the path lined with chorten and get views of Annapurna and Nilgiri Mountain to the south. Climb further from Samar and pass through caverns and ridges. Descend from the ridge to Gheling.    

Day06: Gheling to Tsarang (3560m) 7hrs
Follow the ascending trail to Nyila Pass. Lower down and follow the straight path to steel bridge of the Tangmar Chu River. Walk along path lined with Mani walls and climb yet another pass located at 3600m altitude. Descend from the pass to Charang. There exists five – story white Dzong and red Gompa in Charang.

Day07: Tsarang to Lo Manthang (3840m) 5hrs
Lower down from Tsarang to arrive at Charang Chu River. Crossing the river, follow the rocky trail up to the cairn on a ridge. Reach to the top of ridge to get the view of the walled city of Lo. Lower down from the ridge and cross small stream to make it to Lo Manthang. There exists Thugchen Gompa and Chyodi Gompa in Lomanthang.

Day08: Lo-Manthang to Yara (3900m 6-7 hours)
Leaving Lo Manthang, about 3hrs of walk through the ascending trail will take us to Dhi village. An hour of descend will take us to the edge of small river. We will make brief ascend to Yara village where we will stay overnight in a tented camp.

Day09: Yara to Luri Cave Monastery (4005m) 4hrs
We will visit two monasteries on this day. About 3hrs of walk will take us to small monastery located below Luri Cave Monastery. Later, we will reach Luri Cave Monastery after following the ascending trail for about 30 minutes. 15th century built Luri is the oldest cave monastery in Mustang region. We can observe huge Old Chorten, images and statues of Deities. Luri also holds ancient sacred religious texts inside Luri.

Day10: Luri Cave Monastery to Ghuma Thanti (4600m) 5-6hrs
Leaving Luri Monastery, we will walk along the arid valley with almost no vegetation to arrive at a small pass located at 5100m. Descending from the pass, we will move further to Ghuma Thanti where we will stay overnight. 

Day11: Ghuma Thanti to Namta Khola (4890m) 7-8hrs
The trail continues through series of ups and downs on this day. We will reach a pass located at 5600m and proceed to Damodar Kunda which is the religious lake that attracts thousands of pilgrims each year. We will trek along the lake to Namta Khola where we will stay overnight.

Day12: Namta Khola to Saribung Base Camp (4950m) 6-7hrs
Leave Namta Khola and walk through the dry plateau with no vegetation to Saribung Base Camp that is located at 4950m altitude. Saribung Base Camp offers some of the amazing views of mountains in Nepal and Tibet. 

Day13: Acclimatization Day
This is a rest day. Explore around Saribung Base Camp. Arrange your photo albums, write diaries and spend the day as you like. There is no fixed schedule for this day. 

Day14: Saribung Base Camp to Nagoru (4400m)
Leaving the Base Camp, we will climb Saribung Pass and follow the snowy trail down to the river. Crossing the river, we will undergo series of ups and downs to reach Nagoru.

Day15: Nagoru to Phu Gaon (4080m) 6hrs
Leave Nagoru and walk through the arid valley with scenic views of lofty mountains to small village of Phu Gaon. The village is inhabited by Lama, Gurung and Ghale ethnics and agriculture is the chief occupation. We can also get view of Tashi Lakhang Monastery which is the last monastery built by Karmapa Rinpoche.

Day16: Phu Gaon to Meta (3560m) 6hrs
Walk to the end of Phu Gaon and lower down to the tapered valley. We can see the ruins of ancient forts of Khampa settlements on this day. Visit sites like Jhunam, Chyakhu and Kyang and move further to Meta. Meta offers views of snow-capped Annapurna II Mountain and Lamjung Mountain.

Day17: Meta to Koto (2600m) 6-7hrs
After brief descend, move through the pine forest and walk along water fall that lies near Dharmashala to reach the suspension bridge. Cross the river and take brief walk to Koto from where we will meet Annapurna Circuit.

Day18: Koto to Dharapani village (1860m) 5-6hrs
Leave Koto and walk through Timang village. The trail continues through pine forest which offers view of Manaslu Mountain. The trail lowers down to Danque. From Danque, we will follow the leveled path to Dharapani where we will stay overnight.

Day19: Dharapani village to Jagat village (1300m) 5hrs
Follow the descending trail to Marsyangdi River. Cross the iron bridge and proceed to Dharapani village. The trail passes through small settlements to Tal village. Proceed through Tal village to the suspension bridge near Chyamje. From Chyamje, the trail continues to Jagat village.

Day20: Jagat to Bulbule (840m) 5-6hrs
Lower down through the rock strewn path to Syange. The path is scenic with view of cascading waterfall. Cross the water fall and walk along Marsyangdi River to Bulbule where we will stay overnight.

Day21: Bulbule to Kathmandu (1348m) 8hrs
Catch a bus from Bulbule to Besisahar. It is the district headquarter of Lamjung. Return to Kathmandu from Lamjung and stay overnight in a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day22: Departure
You will be dropped off at Tribhuvan International Airport approximately 3hours before your flight. Have a safe journey. We hope to see you soon.
